The Craftsmen of St. Margaret's
Sir Ian Mills
This presentation focuses on the working lives of twelve gifted Victorians - architects, stained glass artists and wall painters, tile manufacturers, wood and stone carvers and metalworkers - who, between 1840 and 1900 helped refashion the look of ecclesiastic England. They all contributed to St Margaret, Lee but they also contributed to over 1,000 churches and other buildings throughout the British Isles and overseas.
The speaker, a Blackheath resident since 1974, is a director of the Blackheath Preservation Trust and chairman of the Blackheath Historic Buildings Trust. He is the author of a book of the title of his talk.
